Having a really good board game store (Dragon's Lair Austin) so close to work is a bad thing for my wallet. I doesn't help that Alliance's distribution center is in Austin, either, and they just pick their stuff up from them day and date. "Oh, two games I had pre-ordered are in. I got in at $235. I really like the two designers on the project, so I'll be keeping the pledge. The $5 increments is weird and I while I don't completely understand it, I imagine that the reason is the mini costing a good bit to produce, space it takes up at whatever factory is pressing them, and since only a certain number can be done at a time, the amount of "belt time" they have to reserve for each pressing of it.

One thing I do like about Massive Darkness is the amount of loot that exists. It makes it feel very "Diablo-like", which isn't something I've found in other dungeon crawls. I do agree that mechanically it leaves a lot to be desired.

BoardgameERA, I require your assistance. I'm in the market for shelving units for smaller games. I'm talking mostly card games. I have one 5x5 Kallax for my board games and am getting a second one of those plus an IVAR set to store the rest of my games. None of those are great for smaller games, though, and I'm really not sure what to look for to put those on. How do you store your smaller games? Additionally, I built a slightly modified version of this that isn't wargaming specific for my game room. I removed the bottom beams so that people can sit around, but I don't have any chairs yet. I'd love some recommendations for chairs if anyone has some.

Thread: Disney wins antitrust approval for Fox purchase. Fox shareholder vote to take place July 27th.
Not only that, but the reality is that it's going to be much more difficult for Comcast to put in a bid that is that much better than what Disney is currently offering, have the same approval guarantees, and have the better longterm outlook that Disney has. I simply don't feel they are going to be able to pass muster in terms of what they would potentially be able to put together.

Last night, my daughter (12), who at one point hated pirates, became one. We spent three hours playing Sea of Thieves together, and our experience isn't one I'd trade for anything. It was a silly and ultimately fun adventure that took us across the seas on the hunt for.... chickens. That's right. Our first voyage was to go find two chickens, a white chicken and a red speckled chicken. After grabbing the animal cages, we set off towards an island we thought might have chickens, and I promptly ran us over a reef. We sank. We laughed. I taught her about ship repair so that it hopefully wouldn't happen again. A kindly merman teleported us back to land, where a new ship awaited. Same voyage active, we went back towards the island, only this time with much less running over a reef. After arriving at the island, which indeed had the chickens we needed, I was side tracked by a flashing light on a nearby island. Swimming to it, I came across a message in a bottle, which gave us a bounty for two named skeleton pirate captains, along with their location. Thinking that may be too difficult, we decided to go turn in our chickens instead. Only we were accosted by a crew in galleon while on approach to the outpost we had to deliver the chickens to. It was a sad day for our sloop, and chickens, as both ended up on the bottom of the sea, along with myself and my daughter. We took some amount of solace in watching over of their crew members get eaten by a shark right as we perished. Now chickenless, we took a new voyage for yet more chickens and set sail to the Chicken Isle, thinking for sure it would have chickens. Guess what? It doesn't. A nearby island had one of the two chickens we needed, but for this request we needed to find the elusive golden chicken. We decided to check the island that had the bounty targets, because why not? Upon arriving, we were attacked by hordes of skeletons. Eventually we strategized the shit out of things, not even AI cheesing, but just leveraging the games systems in an interesting way. Back on the previous island, we'd found some barrels of gunpowder. My intention with these was to find a galleon, sneak them aboard, then shoot them to sink it. Instead, we lined a path that was visible to our ship's cannons with them, and I lured the enemies to the path while she fired the cannons at the barrels. Our plan worked! Both skeleton captains dead, were took both of their skulls and chickens to the outpost and got a sizable gold reward for each. It was just a great time, with her asking if we could play more tomorrow. She had a great time using the sails, being the one to drop the anchor, and call out what she saw from the crows nest. Sea of Thieves is not a game for everyone. It's story is really just the world that's presented and whatever ones players generate. It's doesn't have level based progression or more powerful unlocks or loot that gives you +5 to shooting. Those things are great. I love those things. WoW and Diablo are two of my favorite games ever, and their core enticement is the acquisition of better loot. Sea of Thieves isn't interested in that. It's interested in keeping a level playing field and having any of its progression be in the form giving you more cosmetic options. I've seen complaints about lack of structure or direction, and there not being enough to do. The former is true, and purposeful. The latter result depends on how engaged you are with the act of pirating in general. If sailing around to islands, getting some form of item after an engagement of killing skeletons, catching animals, or finding where X is to dig up treasure, then bringing it back isn't what one wants to do, I understand. It's a lot of fetching, and if gold that you turn into cosmetics isn't enough of a reward for you, you may want to look elsewhere. Griefing exists and is an understandable frustration if you don't know how to work around it, and playing solo, while possible, is not the best way to play all. All this said, I had a pirate adventure with my daughter that no other game allows, and it isn't something I'll forget. I also know it won't be the only story we have, either.

So the B7 is beautiful. Though every time I go to watch Plex, the EX from the bright white Plex logo on the loading screen is retained for a short period of time. It eventually goes back to normal once I start watching something. I assume that's some level of normal.

You guys were actually having the conversation I was coming to ask about. I went to Best Buy with the intent of buying a 4k Blu Ray player, but didn't because I already have a One X, and I'd really only be buying the player for Dolby Vision, which seemed silly for a number of reasons. 1) As mentioned, I already have something to play 4k HDR movies. 2) I'm currently trying to reduce clutter as is by going digital streaming when possible. My question was going to be about streaming 4k and DV, and it seems like it's fine? I mean, I still may very well end up with a player and The Matrix come Tuesday, but it's a lot to spend if streaming works nearly as well quality wise.

Apparently the just released UBK90 has better internals than the UP970, and doesn't have the noise issue that the UP970 does. The vagueness of "summer" for the X700 has me weary, TBH. Oppo is way outside of my range.

The processor doing the upscaling for older content is mainly what I was looking at, but it seems like the B7 isn't a slouch in this regard either, and I don't know that the difference is worth the extra money. Thanks for the advice.

Bought the 65" B7A last night. Gets delivered Friday morning. Guy at Best Buy tried to sell me expensive AudioQuest HDMI cables for "the best quality." That's still a factually incorrect thing, right? I've always understood it to be, but maybe that's changed.

Now that I'm looking at OLEDs, I know I've asked about the value of the c7 over the b7, but is there any reason to go with the c8 over the b7? rtings still rates the b7a as their best TV, but some of the processing that the c8 does seems interesting.

Anyone have thoughts on this TV? It's right at the tip of my price range at $2500, and is the size I want. I just can't find any information about it other than what is on their site. Are LG IPS generally OK for things like input lag?

NO CURTAINS OR BLINDS! My neighbors have to see me watching TV naked. :P (I'll be getting blackout curtains as soon as I get there.) Is the x850 kind of equivalent to my KS8000? I think it looks great. I'm leaning towards size. You'd recommend the Vizio over the Sony? What significant differences are there that would make you choose it? Just wondering, because I don't know why edge lit is a bad thing. I wish more places carried the P-series. Doesn't seem like many places do and only have the E-series. I've gone from projector to a 67" LCD before, so I totally get the shock. I've just never really done much measuring of "optimal distance" but did find the 67" small for a while before adjusting. Television ERA, I need your opinions! I currently have a 1080p projector that is at 100" for the screen size. We're moving and the new house isn't going to be able to properly support a projector setup (rental, can't exactly drill into the ceiling, etc.), so I'm going to be buying a 4k TV. My budget is ~$2500, and I'm currently considering either something a bit older but bigger (75" Sony x850) or a little smaller but more feature rich (65" LG C7). When it comes to the space I'm going to be filling, here is an image. Unfortunately, I don't have exact measurements and I'm not actually there yet to measure it myself. I'll be setting up the room similar to the image, so my guess is roughly 8-10' between the couch and the TV? Which way would you guys lean? The only thing I think I'd really miss from the x850 is Dolby Vision, potentially. My only 4k experience is with a KS8000 that I currently use for gaming, but that's it. Halp? I'll take any and all recommendations.

So due to where we're moving, we're going to replace our 1080p projector with a 4k TV, and we're also going to ditch our current old audio setup and get a dolby atmos sound bar set up, specifically the Samsung K950. I know the N950 is out in 2-3 months and supports DTS-X, but it's literally going to be $900-1000 more than I can get the K950 for right now. Since I've never had DTS-X, it isn't something I'm going to miss, really, and my thought is get the K950 and put the extra money into a better display than originally planned. Any thoughts on this (that aren't 'get a receiver and speakers instead')?
