Depends on your role but I know many who crunch at T10 and work weekends when needed. They were better than most but the trade off to that is the amount of creativity allowed and what amounts to tuning an experience vs building one up from scratch. Also correct that gaming pays less at MS but often requires more hours.

Bad UI with no options to turn it off. Timers added for no reason that have fail states. I don’t mind having them for those who want the challenge but they should be optional. Artificial difficulty, meaning things are just scaled against the player vs actual skill required in being better at mechanics the game offers during gameplay. Poor save systems. Oh I can’t stop here? Welp I’m out. Online required even for single player. No bots for offline play in mp games.

Yup, its also to appeal to more than just sim racing fans as there are not enough of that target audience to satisfy the costs of development and stay in business. People get a kick out of seeing a car they own or have driven in game.

If you like The Horizon side of the Forza franchise then you should seek out other more arcade racing games. Have you tried the Forza Motorsport series? GT will be closer to that ie simulation driving on real tracks. Very different than a horizon game.

yeah i agree, middle ground would be ideal. its obvious this is a service based game so I expect many things to change and be in flux at times. they will be watching data on their end, and have obviously set up things where they can easily push server side tweaks. it will no doubt be an evolving project.

I'm aware of that, just saying in general these type of games were more prominent when I grew up in arcades and consoles. I really miss the Ridge Racer series as well. There was also an amazing off road game I used to play in the arcade as a kid as well but I can't remember the name of it. I play across all platforms so of course I am always for content being available to as many people as possible regardless of ip ownership. I think you will see more of this in the future with content being released on mobile or publishers like Microsoft happy to have things like Minecraft be available everywhere. Nintendo has also released things exclusively overseas like Mario Kart VR, and content on Nvidia Shield.

This is correct. Forza Horizon 4 will be available on game pass at launch. Previous Forza games have not been added to the service. FH4 is the first Forza post the announcement of all first party titles debuting on game pass. However Forza Apex , I believe is free to try and is basically a scaled down Forza Motorsport 6 with exclusive challenges. Forza Horizon 3 has a demo available. If you’re a fan of arcade racers you’re doing yourself a huge disservice not checking out the Horizon series. Caveat: I worked on the Motorsport series.

It’s just one reason I steer clear of social media. When I saw this story break I was kind of shocked as I have crossed paths with Jessica before years ago. It’s a small industry. For people who think her reaction was odd , as a minority woman who has been in gaming as long as Jessica it really is true; I have to always be ready to defend my position much more than my male colleagues despite my experience and accolades. I only mention this because if that has happened to you over the years you can be somewhat mentally stuck and if you’re not careful every piece of “feedback” can feel like yet another attack no matter how nicely it’s worded. In fact the “nicer” it appears can be even more triggering. It’s tiring to stay quiet , most of us have for YEARS. I assume she has gotten more outspoken over the years. It’s important to recognize this within yourself , it’s how bias is grown within justified or not it filters all your interactions. That might mean pausing a few days before replying or apologizing if you misinterpret someone which happens a lot on social media and within the workplace. It also might mean recognizing you are not in a place for meaningful back and forth and ignoring comments. Twitter probably isn’t the best medium for what she was sharing given her past interactions on the platform where it seemed she felt under attack. That too can affect how one reacts. I think as a developer working for someone else you have to decide to either engage with customers and non customers or not. Either way you are representing the company. MMO fans especially have always had strong opinions on the game. Most developers are the opposite of PR and don’t have others running their social media accounts to provide screened replies. Developers tend to be very emotionally charged when speaking about their work. Her response wasn’t the best but I’ve had harsher ones I’ve said in person lol. I think the bigger issue is whether her interactions broke policy at Arenanet or was the “uprising” which included many non Arenanet fans enough pressure for Arenanet to terminate two long time employees. As others have said I tend to believe this was an opportunity Arenanet used to do something they always wanted to do anyway but lacked cause. Even though Washington is an at will state, companies tend to be very careful when getting rid of employees. Can you imagine Steve Jobs on Twitter and his reactions to “designers” giving him feedback on product launches? I wish he was around today because the meltdowns would be amazing.

I totally agree with this, even my youngest brother noticed the same thing about the friends set. I think they would be much more popular not forcing that color pallete on everything. Its fine to use when it makes sense but it seems very forced on some of their better builds. I think the very same thing. Luckily I am still focused on getting a few sets I missed so not really ready for custom MOC work yet. I look at the mall Jang built and I would love to know how much that cost as well. When I went to brickcon this year in Seattle, saw lots of amazing layouts with custom everything which no doubt had to be pricey. I'm sure many people build over time which helps break up the costs but still. Awesome work! This set is definitely an example of a set they dont need to force that color palette on to be successful imo.

They do hit amazon. I don't think you will have issues with this set. I have not seen resellers clamoring over stocking up on this set the way I saw them talk about the Saturn V. NASA is a strong brand. Grabbing on amazon I don't think will be an issue for this one. I mean its still in stock on Lego Shop At Home US. As long as you get it before LEGO retires it you should be fine.

I hope they put a purchase limit on this stuff to combat resellers swooping in. first off I hope you and your mom are doing better. that sounds horrible. i love speed champions. it was the first series I bought when getting back into lego. I also hate stickers and now I mostly skip them and pack them away unless they are part of really defining the car. I hated how I had to add them on the bugatti for the door area.

In the US , 9pm PST Saturday Night before the day in the promo which makes it 12 am (the day of the promo) EST I believe. I just used my accumulated lego points from last year to get Assembly Square for 160 usd including tax and get the 60th anniversary promo. feels good to use the points for something so significant, and not have to worry about forgetting I had them as I usually only buy direct from lego when special promos I am interested in are available.

There is a official lego dimensions app on the iPhone. It even supports using your camera to scan boxes which auto identifies the set , you can then “add to collection”. I’m breaking my sets down and I’m using the app so I will know if I’m missing any.

60th anniversary freebie is one alot of people will be shooting for. I have about 140.00 of credit and I think I will apply it toward Assembly Square to qualify for the promo. After that I will be taking a lego wallet break. No reason for me to buy any new sets until they are closer to retirement and discounted. Amazon seems to discount to 20% then 30% - 40% for most sets if you just wait a bit. My most recent purchase: I was able to get Kylo Ren's Tie Fighter from Target for $40.00 after price matching Toys R Us. So this year was full of lots of learning for me but I think I have a system that wont leave me homeless lol. I will be keeping an eye out on Lego Shop exclusive freebies but all in all I did quite a bit of catch up last year. Now I have a ton to build. If anything I want to grab a few more retired creator houses and early 1990s lego system sets.

Nice! thanks! I am not totally out of space but I am trying to be much more minimal these days. Its crazy how fast the boxes pile up especially when you are busy working , and just don't have time to really deal with them. Thanks for posting, I really love Speed Champions. I wish they fit in with the city stuff better but I don't care. In my city everyone will be in HUGE cars lol. Happy to see this. I grabbed the Arcos when it was 40% off or so around Black Friday. I was pretty shocked by how big the box for it is. I do still want the Porsche but saving it for a reward when I accomplish something or I will grab it when it closer to retirement. Same here. I have been watching various forums, and I should stop lol. The first year of Lego is a real test of the wallet that is for sure. Speaking of no room for Lego. I spent all day yesterday breaking down sets I have not had time to build. Basically broke down boxes, put all that would fit inside one of the bigger sets empty box. Took each lego set , threw the bags and instructions faces toward the front in ziplock bags. I was shocked I even go the Ultimate Spiderman Web Bridge in one (2.5 gallon). I then took those bags and put them in storage containers. I ended up with one container full of speed champions, the others mostly city and some super hero. I think I easily broke down around 40 sets. I still have quite a few bigger sets I can break down to save room. How does everyone else manage storing sets they haven't built yet or sets they break down after building?

Just starting to build my lego city out. Starting out building out the neighborhood. Built one of the retired Lego Homes I got from this year's Brickcon: I then realized that the recent creator sets really require you to buy more than one and somewhat create your own modulars. I understand why Lego did this, so try to keep the creator series more affordable and save details for the bigger modulars. Boy it really complicates when trying to build a city. I also am not a big fan of the cars in the older creator sets. I love speed champions but those are of a completely different scale. My city may just have big cars lol. I think my first custom modular will be Corner Deli, I grabbed 4 of those sets on sale. *my wallet is sad* I also really want to get the rest of the older creator houses , so I guess I will hit up bricklink. The next one I want is The Apple Tree House Also realized I need road tiles, and more green tiles since the newer creator sets stopped using the full size tiles Which I guess also goes to them keeping prices down. I will definitely share pics once I have more than one thing built lol. Just getting a table for this took me months. Hoping for some down time over holidays to make more progress other than hoarding sets.

In the US Barnes and Noble has various sets 50% off. I went by my local store and got a few. Some creator, City, friends, Ninjago and Minecraft. At my store they were still tagging them and had no list. An associate was just grabbing them all to scan to see which would ring up 50% off. Really odd. I looked online at BM and found sets the associate didn’t know about. He even ended up grabbing 2 I found for himself as well lol.

When I posted about Amazon’s upcoming deal I was skeptical but they really delivered. They also had an item limit set so resellers couldn’t just buy them all. Walmart price matched but had no limit so they sold out of the good stuff soon after Amazon did. Something to keep in mind for future sales in the US at least. Walmart is pretty good about price matching Amazon sales.

I'm not big into star wars but I do follow what resellers think on various sets to help decide how to prioritize when to get sets without going completely broke. This Hoth set just doesn't seem to be a "good" one for those who actually like the theme. It will also most likely see another price drop, so no harm waiting imo. I know resellers picked up a few of these but only in modest quantities, they don't seem to be concerned about availability of the set and seem to think it will get cheaper before it "retires".

Sadly I saw all over the internet lego "fans" missing the point when it came to the women of NASA set. It just reminded me of the people not getting black lives matter and screaming all lives matter. On the bright side it was the number one seller in the toys section on amazon and was showing as back ordered on the US lego shop upon release. Also saw lots of men buying the set for their technical wives and/or daughters. As a double minority working in tech I will be grabbing a few of these sets. i totally agree , we need these sets because if we didn't there would be no ranting , it would be treated like any other set. Disappointing to hear about Jang but not shocking as I encounter Jangs all the time in my career. They seem nice , competent then one day they slip and let their true feelings come out.

After taking a pretty long break from VR on all platforms (about 3 months) just due to not having free time and nothing really jumping out at me, I was waiting for this patch for what seems like forever. It does not disappoint. As others have said they pulled off quite a feat here. I am super impressed with their default comfort options, as well. This is coming from someone who spent almost a year working consulting with Oculus VR on a few projects. So I have a deep understanding into the many issues around comfort, and accessibility the industry as a whole is facing and actively trying to solve. As a huge wipeout fan, its amazing how natural the game feels in VR. Almost as if it was meant to be in VR all along.

Yup this is a bug for sure. I've had it happen every few games on PS4. I bet some people are thinking "wow this game is dead cant find anyone" but really its just dumping people in empty lobbies that wont ever populate. Quitting out to the main menu, and hopping back in fixes it albeit annoying especially when in a group.

Well its either a bug that didn't get fixed or prioritized for the build (yes sometimes as a developer you have local fixes ready to go and you are not allowed to check into the main build for various reasons) or it was done on purpose to see its effects on player progression. Its that simple imo. Hope they fix this as it would help immensely on many fronts.

I know many have wondered why DICE hasn’t pushed a progression patch. The patches for bugs you see are usually done before ship and were deemed not important enough to risk missing the ship date. Given the attention the progression issues have gotten and how deep it’s integrated into the game , there is no doubt multiple solutions being talked about and evaluated from a development feasibility POV to a legal one. My guess is they need approvals from executives at EA, Lucas and Disney and other stakeholders who are OOF due to Thanksgiving. Even if they as developers know what they want to do they have to jump through internal hoops and at this point there are many who want to be looped in and have opinions as well. Not giving an excuse just sharing from my own experience shipping a Star Wars game.

Having a blast thus far. Bought it to support my fellow artists in the industry and boy did they deliver. I don't like Star Wars other than Vader (I have a thing for villains) , so I have no real loyalty to the brand. I just loved the first one so much for being a much more light- hearted BF type game. I cant believe there is no galactic assault in arcade mode, if any mode belongs there its that. Hope they add it soon. I dont have any cards equipped so when I do get kills , I hope the other person feels bad they got killed by someone with NO cards equipped lol.

Oh I bet. My younger brother has one and it was one of the reasons I loved my vita, especially remote play from my PS4 when out and about. I even demonstrated this to execs at Xbox and asked why I couldn’t play my Xbox library on the go yet lol. Now it’s mostly my laptop, since that doesn’t hog the tv screen when others want to watch and I can stream Xbox games (ones without native pc support) to it which works great for casual play while watching things on Tv with others.

It was a huge hit on morale which is why most gaming focused people left the group as soon as they could once it was clear things were not headed in a direction they expected career wise.

Sort of. At times the business requires something and they look around and go why not that team? Some leaders are able to talk their resources out of it, other leaders can't as they have nothing else for their teams to do. Some leaders see it as an opportunity to further themselves by agreeing to do what noone else is willing to do at the company at the expense of those under them. At a certain point you may have lots of people under you, budgets get cut, so its either shift your resources or they get laid off. That is a big challenge at a company like MS where gaming is not the core focus of the company. The other thing is people have careers just like any other medium. Kinect was interesting but moreso for people who were devs, and UI/UX. If you were an artist or a game designer those type of games just don't translate well when it comes to your portfolio and experience. Kinect games were driven by tech, so while your other industry cohorts are working on new high fidelity art for next gen you are doing KA. Just doesn't add up. Now some people didn't really care, as they were somewhat done with their careers (gaming, film), and were fine with trying something new. I worked with Daniel. Super smart guy. He left MS before the kinect train began. He was part of the 1vs100 team only he was working on another game that was in production at the same time. It was pretty cool, but was never released. Daniel was very adamant that MS was going the wrong way by always focusing on marketing the same type of games like Halo/Gears. Not everyone is into to shooting up things and he really believed in making games that were different. The 1vs100 team was also a really special team, full of people willing to take a different view on what gaming could be.

GS alum here. GS worked on many Kinect related initiatives including Kinect Adventures, Kinect Funlabs,etc. We were an incredibly talented team full of carefully recruited industry veterans (people from god of war, mass effect , films like spiderman,etc) The initial plan was we were to just help the Kinect initiative and thus we shipped KA. We were then supposed to move to a new ip on the next Xbox (which would become Xbox1) Instead we worked on additional Kinect content, then had to help our publishing side with Kinect Star Wars. Then GS was broken up into multiple project teams. We focused on interactive tv initiatives then hololens. As the project teams grew they were simply branded. Not full blown studios the way Good Science initially was. As hololens became the focus , gaming subsided and many game focused people left. The branded project teams mostly were prototype teams. Eventually the entire group (NEXT) was moved out of the Xbox organization into Windows. As of today the entire group has been disbanded and work moved to other teams per reorganization announcements you can find online.

Have quite a few friends in this position right now. Stay motivated and keep finding ways to advance yourself outside of work and know the right opportunity will come. Sending you positive vibes and I hope you land that job. That reminds me of post my college graduation when the economy crashed. So frustrating to have to go back home and have family wondering wtf your issue is despite applying like crazy for close to a year. I made it and so will you. Just the fact you feel depressed means you know you can do more and be successful, you just need the right opportunity. The real sad part is when people accept their situations and don’t feel any discomfort and stop trying all together.

After buying way too many games this sale. I am currently playing Gundam Breaker 3 on my ps4 lol. In my defense I do plan on purchasing a new gaming laptop in the next few weeks, so holding off on playing PC games that have higher requirements than my beloved card games. Gundam Breaker 3 is really tons of fun, I hope they have time to fix the issues with 4. I was really excited the series was finally getting a PC release. Too bad they didn't just port 3 with all DLCs and take more time to polish off 4.

I see this a lot. You are not abusing free trials. When you sign up you give your data away and companies like Amazon begin tracking your every move within their ecosystem. This is valuable to them. Not to mention that many who sign up for these trials won’t remember to cancel them or will decide the benefits are worth their while which is a conversion metric they can track. Free trials drive business otherwise companies like Amazon would have scrapped them ages ago. The old adage is true nothing is free , especially when dealing with businesses. I remember when many had similar sentiments regarding Netflix trials. Netflix is doing just fine and still offers trials. Others are right that Prime is pretty big in the US. It’s a great set of games they are giving away especially if they are drm free once you download them from the client. Not everyone cares about achievements,etc in comparison to being able to play a few games for “free”. I assume no steam keys for now because their client goal is set up to focus around and stream to twitch and in the future they want a more gamer centric storefront streamers can push sales thru. Interesting to watch but I don’t see why anyone would be confused in others showing interest. As long as developers are being compensated for their content, options are a good thing.
