I believe they are mostly travel restrictions and asset freezes, so suspect they could extend those further, impose tariffs on goods and services, expel diplomats, etc. Putin doesn't seem like the type to back down when being squeezed though.

As I read and understand it, Charlie's spirit/soul was primed over time by the grandmother to receive Paimon. Whether it was a last minute change of plan after her death or always the plan to get her spirit into a male body (which they said was Paimon's preference) is unclear. But ultimately, Charlie's spirit went into her brothers body when he fell, and they finished the ritual so that the brothers body and Charlie's spirit became host to Paimon's will.

Amazing just how little the new cards are in circulation (I know the reasons why). This whole week of playing well over 100 games I saw 1 Magic Archer, 1 Royal Ghost, and 1 Hunter. No Zappies, no Barbarian Barrel. When such cards do turn up, it is so infrequently I mentally say “oh that’s right, that card exists” every time. On the flip side, seeing Double Prince decks a lot.

For the Elixir cost, the Executioner is a lot more robust and just as effective in a majority of contexts.

It will probably mean one less Hog swing on a Hog / Ice Spirit combo which I think will be a big nerf for those decks. Maybe one less shot from Mortar decks too where Ice Spirit gets heavy use.

I'd expect there to be tweaks and changes to Clan Wars fairly quickly, especially if it was causing people to drop out of the game.

Overall, I think these balance changes will help me. Am running Miner, Princess, Musk, Giant, Valk, Minions, Arrows, and Fireball. Pretty old school deck. Hog Rider nerf is a welcome change for me. Plenty of times where the Hog gets just one last swing in before I take it out which I think will be less of an issue now. Goblins damage being reduced will help me overall, especially which me having a Giant as a main tank. And I'll be leveling my Giant to 11 in the next day or so as well, so a double win. Ice Golem often ties up my Valk and/or Minions and the reduced slow effect will help a little. Arrows and Fireball being nerfed against the tower sucks but in the scheme of things I doubt those particular changes will impact my overall strategy and win rate. My main problem deck seems like it will remain Golem beat down variants.

Thread: SensorTower: Pokemon Go has made $1.8 billion, still making $70 million per month
As a Google spinoff company that created the platform on which Pokemon GO sits, they will be doing just fine and I imagine probably have a rev share/royalty of between 30-70% on net revenues. That's a wide range reflective of a lack of insight into how easy it may have been to get TPC/Nintendo across the line, but at the bottom end is what a solid developer should expect for a royalty on a third party funded project anyway and at the top end its closer to a licensing deal which is the model Niantic were pursuing. Any number in that range is going to have left them with a ton of cash. On top of that, they are the publisher of record with Apple and Google, so all of that revenue is going through their bank accounts which will have some residual financial upside which will be quite meaningful at that scale, especially if they are reporting and paying out royalties to TPC on a quarterly basis.

I saw this last night. Not sure I'd call the ending "happy" for anyone, though it had the opportunity to end on a more bleak note than it did. I enjoyed it overall for what it was, though preferred the first film. This one just kind of ended up not going anywhere in particular IMO.

Thread: Wild Wild Country - The most insane documentary I've ever seen
Finished watching this last night after a couple of nights. I didn't find it overly sympathetic to the cult as some suggest, so much as almost everybody involved just having their bad traits come out (though the doco did move past the criminal activity pretty quickly). The Antelope townspeople over-reacted to "change" right out of the gate, lacked any kind of understanding, were very judgemental, and advocating violence. The cult for their part developed a massive persecution complex, exaggerated the nature of every challenge to their efforts e.g. "they are trying to destroy us", and developed egos and power trips which ultimately manifested in attempted murder and mass poisoning. Hard to say whether the cult would have ended up where they did in terms of militarization and criminal activity without them and the townspeople (and the State) feeding back and forth off each other and escalating the situation. I suspect yes, eventually, but it wouldn't have been as fast. Was good at least that all those guns on both sides didn't amount to any deaths. My favourite was the jokey (ex?) mayor of Antelope who approached the whole thing with a sense of amusement. If more people involved had his attitude I think things would have been a lot smoother. I felt kind of sorry for the cult lawyer. He was still drinking the kool aid today. He seemed like he just needed to be hugged more often.

Finally had my dinner at Atelier Crenn in San Francisco on the weekend. 14 courses across 2.5 hours combined with champagne and the "mid range" wine pairing for one (split between myself and my girlfriend). Was heavily seafood based which isn't my thing typically, so a lot of courses didn't hit for me, but great overall experience and some of the dishes were exquisite. Think I'd try somewhere else at a similar price point before I returned for sure. Also, got to Luce and Alexander's Steakhouse while at GDC, both of which I'd been to before, so I was a little spoiled for great dining.

Have just stared watching Chefs Table on Netflix, about 4 or 5 episodes jumping around. Great insight and inspiration around cooking and food innovation if almost completely devoid of practical instruction and tips. In related fine dining news, I also made (and paid for) a reservation at Atelier Crenn, a two Michelin star restaurant in San Francisco for March. Will cap off the end of my week at GDC nicely as well as being the one year anniversary dinner for myself and girlfriend. Might be the highest rated restaurant I have ever been too and quite pricey, but hopefully worth it for the experience and only being in SF a couple of times a year.

I only took 9 photos last year of stuff I cooked, both a symptom of traveling so much I didn't cook as much as usual, and not taking photos of things I have made before. Hopefully, I'll at least deal with the first issue this year by making the time to cook. Some snaps below, including jalapeno poppers I grilled at the start of the year as part of a bigger barbeque spread, as well as my 3 favourite images/meals from last year - barbeque venison, Nutella french toast for dinner.

Following on from the post above which already leans in this direction, "curry powder" would go with it. Would add depth, a little colour, and a little heat which would go well with the sweetness of the pear on pork.
