Stealth is great, and Horizon is great, but I agree that Horizon felt a bit too "by the numbers" in it's execution on too many beats like that. In particular little things like chasing after scents and hiding in predetermined grass patches, etc, just felt boring. Same thing with the climbing mechanics, they were so poorly executed I was left wondering why they included them at all. The only thing about combat that really set Horizon apart to me was the gadgets, at least those had a certain amount of uniqueness that set it apart.

I definitely play better in ARMS with traditional controls, but the motion controls really are fantastic and make the game a blast to play. Splatoon strangely enough is the opposite, the gyro controls definitely give players an edge over classic controls, but I just can't get comfy with them.

Probably for the better that drugs don't taste great? I remember when I was like 6 I ate an entire bottle of flinestone's vitamins and puked orange. These suck. Spironolactone. It's the part of HRT they prescribe to block testosterone. They're kind of huge and if they get caught in the back of your throat and start dissolving you're in for a real treat. Also as an added bonus, they're a diuretic so you also have to pee like 15 times a day.

My guess as best as I can think of it, is that for gender norms to become entirely extinct we either need complete and total acceptance of transpeople, or (or possibly AND) complete parity between biological sexes and reproduction through technology. It's probably near impossible in the same way that "solving racism" is probably near impossible. We can make leaps and bounds, but even on the most optimistic path I don't see a complete elimination without some currently inconceivable change in our fundamental paradigm brought about through a technological breakthrough or whatever.

I have some fond memories of the Dreamcast. I got one really late in the lifespan, Sonic Adventure 2 was a few months old, within a month the Dreamcast was declared dead. At first I was bummed out, no new games. What I didn't realize was how ridiculously cheap games got, and over the next year I played pretty much all the big names. A bit later me and my friend discovered we could burn ISOs to CD-Rs and the real fun began as we discovered tons of weird Japanese imports and some oddball games like REZ. I didn't know a single other person who owned a Dreamcast, it was like my own little treasure. I loved that thing. A few years later I sold it so I could get a Nintendo DS. Whoops.

Pretty much. I don't know, I go back and forth all the time, like I said in my earlier post, it feels like looking a gift horse in the mouth to complain about aesthetics with a game as beautiful as Tropical Freeze, but I can't help myself from having these thoughts about what the game could have looked like if they had attempted to stay truer to the original games. One aspect I miss about the original games is the weird mind bending levels that seem to shrink the kongs down, like the Beehive levels in Donkey Kong Country 2 and the levels inside hollow trees in Donkey Kong Country 3. Another aspect where the logical or more cohesive not always being better is the temple / ruin levels comparatively: TIRED: African / South American style ruins and temples in a jungle atmosphere WIRED: Weird as fuck sandstone temples in the middle of an alpine forest. I'm just saying, I'd be head over heels in love (moreso than I am already) if in the middle of the forest levels, you unlock a bonus level, the path unfurrows, and through the trees, a giant pyramid appears. The sort of reverence for the old that Mario 3D World and Galaxy 2 exhibited with it's Mario Kart and Throwback Galaxy levels.

Switcheroo was one of my favorite levels in DKCR! Really solid and had some fun ideas running through it. I think my favorite boss in DKCR was actually the minecart moles. The sections where you are bidding time until you can move over to their cart and are just dodging projectiles and throwing back bombs, man. It's funny, it wasn't particularly complicated but it just felt so white knuckle.

Hey y'all, been playing Tropical Freeze for (basically) the first time and loving it. I had played about a world of it at a friends house once on the Wii U but other than that instance this is my first time going through. I'm loving it! My hot take thus far: I was really looking forward to this launch so over the last week I ended up playing all four of the previous Country games, even ended up 103%ing Donkey Kong Country 3 for the first time, and it was also my first time beating Donkey Kong Country Returns. I have some complicated feelings about Returns and Tropical Freeze. For context, I'm about three worlds into Tropical Freeze at the moment, trying to go for a 100% completion as I go. When Returns came out, I have to admit I wasn't that enthusiastic. Donkey Kong Country was tied for the first video game I ever owned. As a kid I played and owned all three of the original trilogy. I think taken as a trilogy, the SNES Country games are my favorite platformers period. The reason I wasn't that enthusiastic about Returns was mostly it's aesthetic. I love Retro about as much as I loved Rare but I just didn't think Retro's interpretation felt faithful. I've since come around and actually love the new games about as much as the old ones, but I still have this nagging feeling like "it isn't the game I would have made". And that's OK. I didn't make the game, Retro did. And because they are amazing talented developers, they made some wonderful, unique games. But that isn't going to stop me from armchairing how I'd have done it ;) . It seems to me that the original trilogy had a much "cooler" tone than the bright and cheerful Returns and Tropical Freeze. I can't really fault Retro for this kind of change, looking at Rare's own sequels and other series like Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie tend to go for that bright cartoon tone as well. I feel like I'm really looking a gift horse in the mouth here, because Returns and Freeze are beautiful aesthetically. I love bright and cheerful games. I love Mario, I love all the other fun fanciful platformers, but for whatever reason it feels somewhat out of tone to me for a game with the "Country" title. areas like Tree Top Town or Bramble Scramble or Fireball Frenzy all have a very eerie and almost sinister feel to them. But it's just a touch of sinister, which I think is what makes it so unique. I've noticed that prerendered graphics of this era usually convey a similar feel, Myst occupies the same feeling for me. Sometimes I think Killer Instinct has more in common aesthetically with the OT than Returns and Tropical Freeze do. I find myself sometimes wondering in Returns and Tropical Freeze why they opted to reinvent some things where they could have gone back to what was established in the OT. The collectables for one thing, something that from a gameplay perspective, Returns and Tropical Freeze NAIL. The puzzle pieces and K-O-N-G letters are fun as hell to collect, but they don't scream "Country" to me. The puzzle pieces don't fit into the games theme, and in Returns they turn into little icons of fruit like strawberries or pineapples. I just don't get it, it seems so out of place as an object. What was wrong with the Bonus Coins and DK Coins or Banana Birds from the first games? Or even if they didn't go that route, why not make them something related to the Snowmads or Tikis? Same thing with the K-O-N-G letters, they are functionally the same as the earlier games and are kind of a brilliant collectable concept. They're brilliant because they not only work as an incentive for either 1-Ups or unlockable content in Returns/TF's case, but also are effective as a guidepost, telling the player approximately how close they are to the finish line. But even the KONG letters seem slightly inauthentic to me in the Retro games: I know this sounds absolutely insane, but it kind of bothers me that the KONG letters aren't gold. I realize how ridiculous a complaint that is, I find myself laughing at myself for having such an unreasonable expectation, but strangely this sort of change apparently matters to me. The red and yellow K-O-N-G letters have got to go. From a gameplay perspective, the collectables are far superior in the new games, and yet I find that Rare's collectables have more identity. You probably see where I'm going with this. Returns and Tropical Freeze are masterpieces of their own. Everything about them is sublime. I just am left sometimes puzzled about why Retro sometimes chose to reinvent the wheel when it was already just fine the way it was. It's an entirely unreasonable desire, they (hopefully) made the game the way they wanted to make it. I just often find myself wanting to pick the developers brains so I can ask them about specific changes they made and why they went the direction they did. Here's to hoping we get a third game, one featuring the Kremlings. :) Oh, and I didn't have an appropriate place to put this weird nitpick, so I'll stick it here. The companion barrels suck from a design perspective. "DD" "DX" "CK" are really weird. "diDDy kong"? "DiXie kong"? Also, Diddy's logo color is blue, a color he has never and will never be associated with. Why not just represent these characters with graphics, like Diddy and Dixies hat, and Cranky's cane?

I'd say so, yeah, although my general wardrobe is very "on my own terms". There are still articles of men's clothing I wear to this day, like it's pretty normal for me to wear men's hoodies over dresses, or men's t-shirts torn to be more flattering and denim shorts. This photo is ancient, but when you see my full body it's pretty apparent with how tall I am, etc that there are elements to my physique that make it rather impossible to fully pass. It was uncomfy as heck for awhile but the more I exposed myself to other LGBT, found other people like myself who actually found me attractive (!!!), that helped a lot. I wouldn't have gotten to that point if I didn't present in public. There are definitely other ways to come to peace with it I think, and I realize how difficult it probably is if you're in a bad location, but that was my personal experience I guess. Maybe there are support groups you can join to get more outside experience? Edit: yeah also finding a good hairdresser is essential and youtube makeup channels are essentiallll

That really stinks, I hope your endo can figure out a work around for you. Good Luck! Last month or so has been kind of rough. I lost my health insurance and I haven't taken my estrogen in over a month and a half because of financial issues. Still taking my Spiro thankfully. I feel pretty depleted without any real hormones in my body. I need to get my act together and figure out a plan instead of treading water like I have been. On the upside, I actually feel about as comfortable in my own body as I ever have, and I've been steadily losing weight dieting. So that's nice.

How long have you been on? I've been on for two years and change and I feel like I have my ups and downs with dysphoria / passing anxiety. At the start I was really worried about not passing and looking visibly trans but these days, I DON'T think I pass at all, but I actually like the way I look in many ways? Problematic, but when first starting out I'd look at typical "after" pictures and have panic attacks, but these days I've grown pretty comfortable with the idea of not passing. Never expected that. I don't think I look cis but I don't know, I found a place where I'm comfortable. I have a ton of body image problems but they mostly stem from being overweight. I still have feelings like "my shoulders are too wide, my feet are too big" but they're mostly nagging feelings and don't crush me as much as they used to. I'm a big believer in things like good makeup routines, smart clothing choices, etc. Which isn't to say I even wear makeup every day, but when I do knowing which choices are good for me, etc. Also this is an "easier said than done" but actually interacting with other LGBT, especially other transpeople/nb's and creating a real friend group on and off the internet helped immensely. I'm also living in New England in a progressive area, so I'm very lucky in that regard.

That's good at least, just being a questioning student in Catholic School felt insurmountable, I couldn't imagine being out as a teacher in that kind of environment. We would frequently have masses where the homily would basically be "don't be gay y'all" and then we'd be filed back into our religion classes where the teacher would have an "open discussion" about it which basically amounted to the teacher pointing to the "correct" answer and me getting dogpiled as the only "LGBT ally", which kept me in the closet for years. Shit can get to you.

A lot of people who find themselves questioning these sorts of identity issues feel like there's an invisible bar to transness, but From there, you can decide if you feel transition is for you or not, some bi-gender / genderqueer people decide to start HRT and seek medical ways for their bodies to feel more comfortable to them, others do not. You may decide you want to come out, or you might not. These decisions are yours to make, and you can tackle them at whatever pace feels most comfortable to you, you know your own situation better than anyone else, and we're happy to talk you through whatever things you may be feeling. I think I'm approaching my first wall to progress in 4B, starting to run out of songs to complete that I haven't failed already at least twice. Had some breakthroughs in 5B and 6B and can now at least comfortable hit the notes and am clearing the easier songs comfortably. Currently level 37. Had my first little breakthrough with the game. Still only at level 21 and still playing on 4B mode, but I've adopted two changes to my gameplay which have allowed me to break into the medium to hard 4B songs. My biggest issue that I resolved is I tend to push the circle button with the middle of my thumb instead of the tip of it, which is fine when the scale is going in one direction, but when it throws ascending notes followed by descending notes it would throw me for a loop and could fail a song for me, so I've gotten used to trying to hold the controller in a position where I can strike with the tip of my thumb. Also, I realized on a few of the higher BPM tracks to reduce the note speed (I've been playing almost exclusively at 2x) and slowing those down to 1.75 or 1.50 allowed me to at least reenter the song after a chain break. I'm wondering how long until I'm going to have to switch over to a holding the gamepad claw style, I had to do that for Audacity and it really fucked with me.

Picked this game up over the weekend, absolutely love it sofar but as others have echo'd holy crap am I a complete scrub at this game. I have some experience with Stepmania, DDR, Guitar Hero/Rock Band so I've managed to jump into the 4 note mode easy enough, but my god is 5/6/8 a minefield for me, I find myself unable to complete even the basic 3-4 difficulty songs because those middle notes throw me for such a loop. Getting better and better at 4 button in mean time though, and I definitely love the selection in this game, looks like if I do manage to break through there's going to be plenty to chew through, which is exciting!

I think my favorite gay romances were actually Stardew Valley, because the characters all have romance options for gay/straight but certain characters like the jock have "confused gay feelings" as part of their arc if romanced. If you're into that person and accept their identity as non-binary, I would assume pansexual, but if you don't think you'd be interested in dating another non-binary person or whatever gender, maybe you're somewhere else on the spectrum. Got the Platinum trophy tonight. The last trophy I had to get was the Forgotten Realm one, for whatever reason it glitched on me and I couldn't nab it. Played for like two hours today, didn't get a single win again hahaha. I love this game but I'm such utter trash, I get too frustrated. The OST got me pumped up though and I managed to push out some fanart instead. Will probably finish it up tonight and get back in.

I really enjoyed Heavy Rain, like, I was hook line and sinker the whole way through that game, thought it was totally visionary. After the fact watching video critiques of some of the plot holes and poor use of red herrings, etc, it made total sense and I felt totally deflated. But you know what? I loved it. I don't care.

- Final Fantasy XII was one of the best ones, and there's nothing wrong with Vaan as the main character. Panelo is totes useless tho - Metal Gear Solid 3 isn't the best one - Heavy Rain was good.

Nice little victory there with Darkest Dungeon! Really happy they responded to this as it seems to be the worst offender I've seen in awhile for such an otherwise desirable and aesthetically pleasing game. Meat Boy probably takes the cake for "technically wrong but looks good and is recognizable at least", which I previously thought of Sonic Manias. They still should both be changed.

Right. So why even set the pilot up that way if it could never deliver on that conflict? TNG and DS9 both had promising avenues to explore from the get go, TNG being the first Star Trek show in some time and a bold new vision of what Star Trek even was. DS9 had the Bajoran and Cardassian conflcit as well as story hooks for each and every character. Voyager was grasping at straws from the very beginning. It finds it's footing eventually, but too often the plot is inconsequential and of little value. Edit: just want to add that I'm just having fun with this argument and I hope I'm not coming across as pointlessly hostile.

If it's a useless plot then why did they introduce it in the first place? If Voyager is a superior show then why set those dominos up in the first place? You haven't answered this. Also, it's beyond me how anyone could find Species 8472, Hirogen, and Kazon superior to The Borg, Cardassians, Changlings, Bajorans, etc, etc. Or are there some other aliens I'm forgetting about?

Nah. TNG and DS9 both have strengths that shine above every other series and make them unique. Voyager is fine but that's about all it is, fine. It is the best at nothing and has maybe a fourth the amount of landmark episodes DS9 had. Hell, a fourth is generous.

You have to make a judgement call. Tons of people have depression (me) and are functional all or most of the time, but if you don't think you can handle and treat that person with empathy when things are bad, it's not fair to you or her. I'm getting pretty tired of the dating scene. I've had a lot of success but nothing I can turn into a real relationship. Hook ups are pretty boring to me at this point. I love the feeling of early infatuation, but also sometimes it's absolutely suffocating and stresses me the eff out. I just want a boyfriend or girlfriend that is stable and close by.

Thread: It really bothers me to see people praising the Star Wars prequels lately
As a kid / young teen I came out of all three having had a blast, but the plot was kind of incomprehensible for a kid and I remember being really confused about basic fundamental plot points of the PT until a bit after AOTC. I think they're total garbage, but people are going to like what they are going to like. Some people are nostalgic, some people might like them for some niche reason we can't understand or comprehend, and some people just have shitty taste. It's not a big deal. Let them. Also never forget Dex's Diner. Never.

It definitely was a surprise to me, as a moderator. When we launched I was expecting a large "invasion" of users that would do their thing and immediately be banned. I never really considered the large pool of people who actually had an interest in posting on the old site but were banned, and how they now also had a clean slate, the kind of posters that will tip toe over the line at every chance. I truly believe in the warning system and I can say as a moderator we take viewing previous warnings and escalating the severity of punishment seriously. With hope, the kind of posters that create this kind of toxicity will be weeded out, but we have to give everyone a fair chance. It sucks sometimes, but we'll get there. Also, there are some phenomenal members using the report system and it really helps the mods do their jobs, so thank you. Anyway, the reason I came in here. I'm thinking about getting a nose piercing, just a stud. I've only had my ears done and I'm a little nervous, was wondering if anyone had any insight. Is there a lot of upkeep? does it really hurt? does it feel weird or uncomfortable? Thinking about getting it on the opposite side my bangs go:

I dusted SFV back off and was having a blast today, altho once I play for too long I kind of end up getting discouraged. I'm just not very good at stringing combos together that involve special moves, I can get most of them off in trials but it just doesn't come natural to me in game to be winding the analog stick around that quickly after a previous move. At the level I play at I guess it doesn't really matter but it's somewhat frustrating to me to realize just how awful I actually am at fighting games, :V

Thread: 52 Games. 1 Year. 2018.
Games Completed: 7 1. Resident Evil 5, PS4 Beat this for the first time, I had played almost but not all of it when it had originally came out. I don't like it nearly as much as 4 and the problematic racist stuff is definitely an issue to me, but as a dumb arcade game it's pretty fun. It's still easy to matchmake into Online Co-Op and I was able to play most of the game via Online Co-Op. 2. Tekken 7, PS4 Cleared Story Mode, Arcade Mode, and even got the Platinum trophy! I'm absolute shit at Tekken, but it's a fun fighter. I got the platinum trophy the day before Dragonball FighterZ released, which I thought was appropriate. 3. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, PS4 I had beaten this before when it originally came out, it's the only Kingdom Hearts game I've ever beaten previously. My goal is to complete all of the Kingdom Heart's games by the time 3 is released. The game is really quaint but I actually enjoyed myself quite a bit. 4. Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories I couldn't stand this game. I actually really like almost all of the ideas it had on paper, a Kingdom Hearts card game rogue like sounds fantastic, I love all of those things, but christ the game is just so horrifically dull. 5. Steamworld Dig 2 My favorite Metroidvania in awhile. I really loved everything about this game, looking forward to finally trying Heist out. 6. Sonic Mania Was awesome! It made my top ten soundtracks for 2017, but I finally got around to finishing this year. 7. Mutant Mudds Deluxe Found this game really charming, will play the sequel later in the year when I've had some time to recover. Currently Playing: Dragonball FighterZ Resident Evil 4 Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
