Title: Ireland Repeals the Eight Amendment (Abortion Legalization) - 66.4% Yes, 33.6% No

Reason: User Warned: repeated inflammatory thread derailment (comparing abortion legalization to child porn/abuse)

1. The term "fully alive" doesn't really describe anything. 2. Humans are at no point independent from their enviroment, they allways have to interact with their direct enviroment in order to survive. When they consist of one cell and when they have survived 40 winters already. 3. Some Babies have no parents (atleast shortly after birth). The way it is being done in most places on earth where there is no legal human until the baby exited the womb is practical and has served us well as a species for so long. But thanks to recent scientific advancements we can see more and more how exactly the development of a human being works, the development that happens inside the womb, but also outside of it after birth. So People have been asking themselves: Shouldn't we choose a new point? So far, there have been a lot of proposals, all of them with some sort of reasoning behind them. But we notice that when we move our point away from the traditional point of birth in either direction, things are getting problematic. If we move it all the way to the beginning, the fertilized egg, then we'll have the rape dilemma. So that's not an option. If we move it beyond the point of birth, then... well, when do we stop? We would need some sort of criteria that only has the states "true" or "false" and can be detected with very high certainty. ...So do we need to meddle with the point of birth at all? I'd say we need to, since we are no longer dependant on mother natures clock for when the birth is. So technically individuals, doctors or the parents, are deciding when an object becomes a legal human as they please in individual cases. Now the "abortion is only legal in the first [insert] weeks" is indeed a very practical compromise. But even if we leave out the "human life since conception!" folks, then there are still many many people that aren't happy with this randomly choosen point and would much rather make it dependant on a specific criteria. But as written above, it must be precise in order to satisfy our concept of law and legality. Well or we could really just leave it to individuals, maybe the parents, maybe the docters or maybe some officers, to determine and declare in each individual case when a pile of cells becomes a legal human. Mind though that this would open the door for all sorts of horrific abuse. "Child abuse" could become legal.
